Unit 17 discusses the use of equipment and teaching aids. Some of my take-away points for using the white/black board is that it can hold student attention well if used correctly. The teacher can make a board plan on paper beforehand to come prepared. Make sure what you write can be read from the back of the class. Keep it organized and erase what is no longer needed!
When using interactive whiteboards it is important to receive training to use it to its full potential. But, using IWBs can often be too time consuming to make lessons that fully utilize IWBs.
Using visual aids the teacher can add variety and interest and be more effective than verbal explanation, thus reducing teacher talk time.
