The videos showed a very clear example of an ineffective teacher centred lesson and a fairly effective more student focussed lesson that made proper use of the ESA model. The comparison certainly consolidated the material from units 1, 3 & 9. Simple things such as a smile and learning students names made a huge difference to the atmosphere of the classroom and attitude of the students. The importance of visual aids (flashcards, mime etc) in helping students understanding was also made quite apparent. Though lesson 2 was clearly superior in terms of student teacher rapport and methods/technique, I felt that the lesson plan was slightly underprepared. For example the engage phase; as the worksheet had an answer key, introducing a predetermined set of animal vocab via flashcards before eliciting other animals from the students may have made been a better idea. Particularly for animals that some students (based on their answers) did not have a clear image of such as walrus and otter.
