This unit covered different teaching methods building from the original concept of grammar-translation to the current ESA method. The ESA method was then covered in detail including the different types of ESA lesson plans - straight arrow, boomerang and patchwork. Examples were given for the types of activities that should be done in each stage Engage, Study and Activate. Regardless of the type of lesson plan each lesson should begin with an engage activity and end with an activate. One important learning point for me was the role correction plays in each phase of the lesson and the balance between overcorrection and motivation. The examples of activities to use for the engage phase was very useful as I often have difficulty getting my students to start speaking at the beginning of the lesson.
