This unit gives further clarification to the usage of modal auxiliary verbs, as well as the passive voice, verbal phrases, and relative clauses. These are aspects of English speech that will be more easily demonstrated by a fluent English speaker because they add complication to the sentence structure. Some of the verbal phrases can be, at times, colloquialisms that may not be familiar to some non-native English speakers. Auxiliary verbs help to provide more clarification to the context of a sentence, including the speaker's demeanor and intention of speech. Relative clauses also provide clarification to a sentence, often to modify a particular noun to which the speaker is referring. The passive voice, as also mentioned in the text, is used when the performer of the action is unknown or unimportant (or if the receiver of the action is the focus of the sentence).
