Unit 11 introduces two of the four basic skills in any language namely reading and listening - referred to as the receptive skills. The other two skills required are speaking and writing - referred to as productive skills. A balanced or integrated approach should be taken to ensure that lesson plans integrate all four skills. It is interesting to learn about the number of specialist skills that can be employed when reading or listening. The lesson plan provided is very useful to demonstrate how receptive skills can be taught.
