in the unit i have learnt that there are 3 main ways to assess a student's language level, these are tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests. For evaluation by the students you can hand out a questionnaire or have a discussion with the class about hoe they feel the course is going and if they have any input on what they would like to focus more on, this can make them feel more connected to the course and learning process and is a good way to get feedback on whats is working and what needs improving. Placement tests are for new students to assess there level of English before placing them into a class or course, for these the teacher should start simple and work there way up until they find the level of the student. Diagnostic tests are normally done at the beginning of a course and gives the teacher information about the students current strengths and weaknesses and allows him to focus on the gaps in the students knowledge. Progress tests are good in finding areas where students are having problems and can help the teacher decide what things to focus on. Practice tests are for getting a student ready for an external exam and should mirror the test which the student will take.
