Estell Manor, New Jersey TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
The unit discussed teaching special groups. The first part of the unit concerned teaching beginners. First different categories of beginners were listed, then tips were given concerning methodology and techniques, possible problems and motivation. The second special group discussed in the unit were individual students. This part included tips for teaching, list of suitable activities, and a point about homework. The third special group covered by the unit was children. A point was made about parents' speech as well as about pleasant classroom setting, followed by a list of do's and don'ts and finally class management was discussed. The unit then discussed teaching business English or ESP, first describing the possible clients, and then addressing their needs and how to map them with a need analysis. After this, it was explained how to plan the program, what materials to use, and what things should be considered in each stage of the course. The last special group covered by the unit was the monolingual and the multilingual class. After an introduction on these two settings, a checklist was given on different ways to avoid using the mother tongue in the classroom. This unit was the most enriching and informative for me so far as I have only been trained to teach in school and especially in middle or high school. I thus appreciated very much the concrete and detailed tips and ideas for teaching business English and individual students in particular. I also found useful the tips for avoiding the use of mother tongue in classroom as that is not always easy.
