I learned that there are ways for educators to still make the classroom interesting, even if the main source for learning is via a course book. Adding authentic material like newspaper, magazines, music, films, and menus not only add current material, but also provide a boost of confidence for learners, as they start to feel like a daily activity they carry out in their native language is becoming easier in their new language. I also learned that created materials like crosswords and flashcards are nice variations to get into when the course text is lacking.
