In english as in any other language there are four basic skills divided into two categories receptive skills and productive skill , this unit lesson's focus is on the former skills.there are two receptive skills,namely the reading skill and the listening skill.The unit highlight the fact that the level of understanding of any listening or reading material by a listener or a reader is highly influenced by the specialist skill that he/she employs.those specialist skill are : predictive skills,specific information-scanning,general idea -skimming,detailed information and deduction from context.I learned from this unit that as a teacher I should vary the topics over a period of time in order to cater to all my students interest.in addition to that , I should , through carefully chosen activities at the engage phase , raise the student interest for the material. finaly, I should pre-teach complex vocabulary or structure if necessary.
