When speaking in the present tense there is the present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. Each one has a particular sentence structure. The Present simple is used when talking about general habits and routines as well as facts and truths. It's the most commonly used tense used. The present continuous is used when the action is in progress around the time of speaking, and contains mostly action verbs while the present perfect uses state verbs such as "know". The Present continuous should be used when actions in progress at the time of speaking or around the time of speaking. The Present perfect is used when it relates something to the past to the present. Whether it's indefinite past actions or unfinished tased actions or past actions with present results. Lastly there is the Present Perfect Continuous, used when an action continuing up until the present point in time.
