Unit 19 focuses on the different types of classes EFL teachers might encounter. This unit covers five such different groups: teaching beginners, individual students, children, business English and monolingual and multilingual classes. Each type of class will require the teacher to use different methods and techniques. Similarly, each type class will present the teacher with challenges, which will have to be managed in different ways. This unit outlines detailed information on how to accomplish this for each of the five types of classes.
Since all of the units so far focused on teaching an adult group of students, this unit has been very helpful in teaching techniques that will allow me to create a conducive environment for learning for different types of classes. For this reason, I will surely refer to this unit in the future if I come across a different type of class. For example, the sample “needs analysis” included on page 12-13 will be highly useful if I ever need to teach business English.
