Unit 11 is concerned with teaching receptive skills. In the English language, receptive skills are comprised of reading and listening. Furthermore, people typically have two motives for reading and listening which can be for entertainment, a purpose, or a mixture of the two. When a teacher understands the "why" and "how" of receptive skills, the goal of teaching English becomes slightly less complicated. The reason it becomes less complicated is based on the assumption that the subject matter may be delivered in such a way that it motivates and encourages the student as they progress through a lesson plan.
