This unit deals specifically with the past tenses which are :
The past simple, past perfect, past continuous and the past perfect continuous tenses.
Here, I learned that the past simple tense is used to talk about an action that took place in a definite time in the past. For example, "He did not come yesterday" or "He slept late last night"
The past perfect tense, on the other hand, illustrates a past action that occurred before an event in the past. Usually the word 'had' is used to qualify the past perfect tense.
The past continuous tense makes use of the ending 'ing' on the verb as used in reporting a past event and at a specified time.
Finally, the past perfect continuous term deals with an action that was continuous in the past at the time of reporting the action, irrespective of whether the action continued thereafter or not.
Another significant thing that I have learned in this unit, is that the simple past form of the verb "to be" has two forms according to person. It goes with 'WAS' for the persons I, he, she and it, but rather go with 'WERE' for the persons you, they and we. The rest of the verbs do not change for all persons.
