I think tenses will be more difficult to teach, since they have to do with pretty nuanced meaning in time, especially because not all verbs (or verbs in combination with certain phrases or usage) lend themselves easily to all the tenses. If you try to use the same verb for all tenses, you might come up with some awkward English that might confuse sentences. For instance "I stopped the car" makes sense, but "I was stopping the car" does not.
I think some kind of visual representation of action along a timeline might help to illustrate each of the tenses.
