In this unit I learnt the main types of ESA methodology. We can divide it into 3 stages: Engage, Study, Activity. The main purpose of the Engage stage is to get students think and talk in English. We can do this with some certain activities, such as FLIZZ BUZZ, Listing, Alphabet games.
The second stage is Study stage, the purpose of this stage is to elicit the teaching point from the students. Again there are activities such as gap fill activity, matching activity, word order.
The third is activate stage the purpose of which is the actual language use. The activities can be role play, surveys and debate.
The ESA lesson we can also call as a Straight arrow it is like E-S-A. the boomerang ESA is E-A-S, and Patchwork ESA can be different from E (---------------) A.
