As a matter of fact, this unit vividly shows a comparison between two different (quite opposite) ways of teaching English to ESL learners by means of two videos. All along the videos, we can observe a neat continuity of contradictory features throw teacher's intervention (manner to adress to the class) and behavioural reactions from the learners. To sum up, it symbolizes in a very sensible and conclusive way "the archetype" of an impatient, tedious and a bit patronising teacher vs an enthusiastic, consistent and considerate one.
To my mind, I was wondering about the lack of inherent cultural knowledge (in that case: English and Thai) in the lessons presented. It perhaps could have been very interesting (as getting general knowledge) and evidently more appealing to the learners, and that, at any stage or phase of a lesson to use in a balanced proportion but appropriately some productive elements from the English language Culture (cultural and social aspects) in connection with the learners's Culture and model of society.
Indeed, appropriation or acquirement of a foreign language becomes more eloquent, captivating and accessible through the use of examples pertaining to the cultural and/or social characteristics belonging to the learners. In that regard, sensitivity plays a great role in anyone's attempt and endeavor, it aims to heighthen comfort and commitment, broaden personal outlooks and eventually implement one's abilities to its best.
