The unit discusses the two productive skills of the four main language skills, which are speaking and writing. Although fundamentally they appear very different, both skills are used to communicate and so have very similar goals. When speaking and writing, we can choose to focus on the accuracy or the fluency of the language produced. Accuracy relies on utilising the correct word, grammar, or vocabulary, and is often controlled by the teacher to ensure that it is reproduced correctly. Fluency focuses more on the students utilising language correctly but also creatively, and is often controlled by the students, who can use the opportunity to demonstrate their comprehension and their understanding of a language by being as adventurous and creative as they wish.
