Unit 12 focused on the productive skills of speaking and reading. It once again enforced the idea that results are much better when students are interested in the topics being used in the classroom. This unit also discussed the importance of ensuring students have had sufficient practice in accurately producing the language before asking them to use it creatively. During creative stages, students should be allowed to produce the language without the constant presence of their teacher.
I have made the mistake of asking students to produce language without properly drilling the correct structures in classes before, so I have had some first hand experience with how unsuccessful that can be. I was unsure of what I had done wrong, but I am now able to identify what my error was and next time I will be able to plan my lessons better. This unit has been quite helpful to me.
