In this chapter we've learned that there are four basic skills in any language that a professor needs to pay attention to when teaching. These are receptive skills such as reading and listening, and productive skills such as speaking and writing. There must be a balance of all these in each specific lesson plan in order to keep students interested as well as constantly learning. Reading and listening must require students to use their minds to literally understand words and process them with regard to their pre-existent knowledge. Also we as teachers must pay attention to a students receptive skills by choosing materials that interests / motivates, varies, allows them to practice complex vocabulary or comprehension skills and naturally encourages them to explore their reading, listening, writing, speaking skills.
