This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
As I have been teaching while taking the TEFL course, I’ve used many TEFL ideas throughout the year. Here are a few:
The grammar units have helped me break down specifics in planning my lessons. Instead of doing a lesson on verbs, for instance, I can do a lesson on the present simple form, or an entire lesson on conjugating to the present perfect, or making verbs negative.
I use the 3 x 3 choral response technique in all of my lessons. It gets the attention of the class, involves everyone, and the students seem to think it’s fun.
In having to come up with a lot of different teaching activities, I’ve developed many ways to present and teach new material.
The ESA lesson plan format has been helpful, and I’ve used that in my class.
Breaking english down into the four aspects (reading, listening, writing, speaking) has helped me make better lessons.
Just overall, I know I’ve become a better teacher with a more effective classroom since I began the TEFL course. It’s been very helpful in guiding the direction of my teaching.
