Before I took this online tefl course, I had thought most of EFL teaching would be intuitive. While an EFL teacher can teach from intuition and from their experience, this is difficult to do. This course has provided me with all of the basic skills and knowledge that I will need to be successful in an EFL class. I feel confident in my ability to manage a class now, whether it is how to approach youths or adults, how to teach varying levels of fluency, or just lesson planning.
For one, I have relearned the small yet significant differences between the different forms of the past, present and future tenses. I have learned how to structure my lessons by using an ESA format. I have also learned how much of a necessity student motivation is, and subsequently learned how to generate motivation in class through engaging activities and varied assignments.
With my accumulated knowledge from this course, I plan to maximize the students’, and my, learning in any future EFL courses I may teach. I will use what I have learned to organize my lesson planning, manage my use of course materials as well as extra materials, and confidently approach my students. And that would be exactly as I would have hoped in taking this course.
