This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
For three years I have been taking several courses to improve my teaching skills and I have to say that most of them are totally focused on the theory and they didn’t actually teach me how to be a better teacher or know better how to tackle the issue of teaching the contents of the english subject. This has always been a problem for me, since theory doesn’t cover it all and my everyday job is not reading theory, but putting things into practice. However, finally I have found a real good course focused on practice and I am really thankful for it.
This course has helped me a lot be aware of many of the pitfalls and problems that may arise in class and the most important thing – how to work them out!
Furthermore, I have finally been taught how to do didactic units, which is not easy at all. Now I have a method, something to hold on to. This is basic for me, because soon I will be taking a public exam and I really needed to know how to plan, program and organize a lesson. Now not only do I know how to do so, but I also have plenty of ideas of how to do it in a right and varied way.
Actually, I am already using for my classes the things that I have been learning, even some of the examples I created have been used in the reality.
Lastly, I would like to say that the feedback from the tutor has been really encouraging and interesting, because I received a personal and professional view really based on practice, which is absolutely interesting.
In sum, it can be said that there is a lot that I have learnt, but there is even more that I will learn by reviewing the contents and the ideas collected in the units in the future.
