I have really enjoyed taking this course. It has shown me that as a native speaker I have a useful commodity that I should not undervalue. It has given me confidence in my own abilities to teach and to do a good job of it. I am glad that I already had some teaching experience before I started the course, as I was able to criticize and analyze my own methods and to think about changing some aspects of how I teach. The course has also shown me my own need to frequently revise the rules of grammar so that I can be more familiar with them and confident when teaching grammar. I really believe that a good teacher, with a good knowledge of their subject coupled with enthusiasm for their subject and their class can pass on that enthusiasm and love of the subject to their students. I thoroughly enjoyed the grammar units even though I must add that ‘phrasal verbs’ still baffle me a little. I have actually taught phrasal verbs in my lessons but I always followed the book closely! Overall, I would say that the TEFL course is the beginning of a journey for me. I intend to continue teaching english and to continue studying my own language. I hope to secure work in a language school and put to good use all that the TEFL has taught me.
