This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have learned that teaching, like other professions, can be challenging while rewarding. I have learned various methods and techniques for teaching ESL, while keeping in mind that teaching is not just about technique or skills. One must also have the desire to teach and to do a good job. After completing all the units up to now, I realize that teaching ESL will be challenging, but that I have the heart and desire to do a good job, to implement what I have learned.
I have also learned that there are a lot of resources available: online information, books, multi-media, etc.. However, there is the human resource: other teachers with more experience and the students themselves.
I plan to implement what I have learned by first developing an online resource folder with all the material, personal notes, lesson plan examples, etc.... I will also keep a printed copy of these to use as my “ITTT TESL Bible” so that I can always refer to them.
I will start to plan and think about how I will approach teaching and how I will develop my lessons based on the various factors: student’s level, needs, culture, etc... Basically, I will develop what works for me individually as a teacher, using the methods taught in this course. Naturally, I may update methods and techniques as I continue to grow as I gain experience and grow as a teacher.
